Description
Spyglass Hill No. 4, Pebble Beach, CA
The challenge of Spyglass Hill is to be long off the tee but remain accurate enough to keep your ball in play. The 4th hole is no exception. Although it plays as a 370 yard par 4, if the wind is blowing, it can be much more difficult. The designer of Spyglass, Robert Trent Jones, Sr. said it is the best par 4 he ever designed. Why? Because there are so many options off the tee which in turn leaves still more options to the green.
The second shot into the green is a blind shot. This green has many undulations that make it difficult to stick even if you selected the correct club. If you miss the green, a pitch shot from the ice plants or sand is no gimmie either. Don’t let the yardage give you false confidence because there is plenty of danger lurking behind the hills that can take away a good round.
